Letter, 1839 Aug. 23 [Sumter, S.C.] to John Glymph.

Letter, 23 Aug. 1839, written from Sumterville, S.C., to John Glymph, of Hogg's Store (Newberry Dist[rict], S.C.) reveals that Coleman was teaching school, traveling, hunting, and enjoying an active social life: "we have as many parties &c as ever. I have become quite a ladies man." Coleman had spent his vacation "in the vicinity of Cheraw" where he "had the pleasure of killing three deer," and more recent travels had taken him to Clarendon, where he "received an impression which I think will carry me down there again shortly." In closing, Coleman asked to be remembered to friends and the Glymph family but was uncertain when he would again be "up the country.
